"Lacrosse is Medicine for the Soul!" is a quote from RJ Smith, a member of the Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe who teaches the Native American history of lacrosse.
Shaker Youth Lacrosse Inc would like to welcome Alyson Carfagna as our girls youth lacrosse coach.
Alyson Carfagna graduated from Shaker Heights High School in 2001. After teaching
elementary school in New York City and Cleveland, she eventually returned to teach in the
Shaker Heights School District at Boulevard Elementary school before starting a family in 2014.
Her love of lacrosse began in gym class at Woodbury Elementary School. Alyson was a
member of the Shaker Heights High School lacrosse team for four years, including being
Captain her Junior and Senior years. In Alyson's Senior year, she led the Red Raiders to victory
at the Ohio State Championship. After Shaker, Alyson went on to star at the University of
Michigan. She earned All American honors three years in a row (first-team: 2004-2005, second-
team: 2003) in addition to being named Captain her Junior and Senior years. She also took her
team to the Club Varsity National Tournament all 4 years she played.
Alyson has coached lacrosse at the high school and college levels and most recently coached
the 3 rd and 4th grade girls team at Gesu Catholic School. Alyson lives in Shaker with her
husband and 4 children and is excited to be a part of the girls youth lacrosse program! Her main
goals are to promote fitness, teach responsibility and commitment, model cooperation, help
develop new skills and to provide a fun experience for the girls.
Thank you Alyson for donating your time to coach in our community.
